Buying a three-bedroom property seemed a near impossible purchase for first-time buyers Kayleigh Stevens (29) and Josh Morris (28). Believing it wouldn’t be within budget or that they wouldn’t be able to afford it, their initial plan was to aim for a two-bedroom home and upsize later, when necessary. However, thanks to the Help to Buy scheme, Kayleigh and Josh were able to purchase the three-bedroom semi-detached house of their dreams at Berkeley Homes’ Broadacres development in Horsham, West Sussex.
Having previously been living with Josh’s parents, the couple who both work in sales, moved into their new home in June 2018 and are now expecting their first child in July. Kayleigh comments: “I have been renting since I was 18, but a year before we purchased our new home, I moved into Josh’s parent’s house with him in an attempt to save for a deposit. We were each living on £50 a week and anything we didn’t spend, we put straight back into our savings towards a house of our own. Josh is originally from Horsham and grew up there, so we both decided it was ideal place to start our home search.”
Josh comments: “We started by looking online and came across Berkeley’s Broadacres development and were sold almost instantly! After calling the marketing suite to arrange a viewing, we discovered all the two-bedroom homes in the first phase had unfortunately been sold, however they had just one three-bedroom home left in the current phase.
“As we were so keen on Broadacres, we were advised to take our chances and speak to the mortgage advice service, who told us to our surprise we would be able to afford a three-bedroom home, through the Help to Buy scheme. The sales lady at the marketing suite stayed until 7pm that night so that Kayleigh and I could visit. In less than an hour, we had viewed the show home, which was beautiful, and put down a deposit.”
Kayleigh adds: “With the added Help to Buy loan of £80,000, our mortgage is £300,000. Monthly we pay £1,034 which is ultimately cheaper than renting. We’re so happy we’ve got more monthly spending money and a gorgeous home in a fantastic location. We love our home – it’s got a high-specification and the attention to detail is great.”
Situated to the west of the charming village location of Southwater in West Sussex, Broadacres is an exciting development of unique homes which will provide high quality two to five-bedroom properties, designed to complement the character of the area. There are currently nine outstanding three-bedroom homes available at Brushwood, the newest phase at Broadacres.
Southwater boasts an attractive village centre which combines modern amenities with traditional charm. Everything you need is on your doorstep including a supermarket, doctors’ surgery and there are plenty of dining options at the nearby market town of Horsham. For commuters, Horsham train station is just ten minutes from the development, offering excellent rail links into London Bridge and Victoria, with a journey time of less than an hour, while major airports are within easy reach.
Kayleigh comments: “Broadacres is open, spacious and very green with a very friendly neighbourhood. In the summer, Berkeley organised a BBQ on the green and we attended Christmas drinks in the marketing suite, which was a lovely way to meet and get to know our neighbours. Broadacres is minutes from town and Horsham train station is 10-15 minutes, ideal for both our commutes to work and getting into London.”
Kayleigh concludes: “We’ve had a brilliant time this past year. We moved into a new house in June, Josh proposed in August and we are expecting a baby this July. We’ve got the perfect home to raise a family and we couldn’t be happier.”
Prices at Broadacres start from £399,500 for a three-bedroom home. For further information on Broadacres please call 01403 334 000 or visit our website www.broadacres-southwater.co.uk
