Mark and Kat, who both run a bespoke Digital Learning agency “Onclick” (www.onclick.co.uk) together, moved out of London in 2011 and bought their first property; an older two-bedroom cottage in Marden. Kat explains: “Originally, we moved out of the city in order to get onto the ladder. Our cottage was a great starter property, however we started saving to extend, as it didn’t offer the living or entertaining space that we wanted.”
Mark continues: “Over two years, we’d saved enough to add an extension, however because of the plot size, we were quite limited. The more we researched, we decided to spend our money on a new-build home, saving us a lot time doing DIY, which we could invest into our business instead, and offering better value for money.”
Kat comments: “Our friends bought a Millwood home four years ago in Ditton, Kent, and spoke very highly of them, so we decided to visit Windsor Meadow. We really loved the development and originally looked at a three-bedroom terraced home similar to my friends, as we thought anything larger would be out of our budget. However, we were pleased to discover that the Help to Buy scheme isn’t just for first-time buyers! Knowing we were eligible to utilise it, enabled us to look at a larger property. Generally, moving costs are so expensive, therefore it was one hundred percent worth investing the money into a bigger four-bedroom home, knowing we won’t have to move again, if we decide to start a family.”
Already proving popular with young professionals, commuters and families, Windsor Meadow is an exclusive collection of three, four and five-bedroom homes. Kat and Mark bought a four-bedroom detached home, The Barnham, which offers a spacious open-plan kitchen, living and dining area, ideal for entertaining and benefits from a single garage. One of these house-types currently remain at the development.
Mark comments: “We really liked the layout of The Barnham - we know it’s a home that can evolve with us as we grow. For now, we are using one of our spare rooms as a home office and have transformed one of the rooms downstairs into a games room, with a pool table. We walk our Jack Russell, Win, in the green fields that our house overlooks and he loves the new garden.”
Kat adds: “What we were originally trying to achieve when we wanted to extend our cottage was gaining more living and entertaining space and I was obsessed with having bi-fold doors. In our new home, we have a great size living space with bi-folds - over Christmas it was perfect for entertaining.”
Kat concludes: “I grew up in Marden, its lovely and has a fantastic community feel. Our office is based in the village, so we can walk to work in 10-15 minutes, which is a very convenient commute every-day. We previously lived in London, so it was a really important for us to be able to get into the city for both work and socially to meet friends. Marden train station is within walking distance and takes under an hour, which is perfect!”
The village is home to Marden Cricket & Hockey Club as well as Marden Primary School. For further amenities, the county town of Maidstone is just eight miles away and the vibrant town of Tunbridge Wells is less than 14 miles away. Whether it be for work or leisure, residents can travel from Marden Station into the capital in just under an hour. The nearby A229 leads directly to the M20 and M25, providing access to Gatwick Airport.
